My thesis “Laser Theory and Peer to Peer: Towards the Domination of Distributed Networks and a New Mode of Social Organisation” has been reformed many times till now. The objective of this study is to formulate a set of arguments that explain under which conditions the social change can take place, throughout a creative revolution ‘from below’. The P2P theory argues that the civilisation is moving towards a society where the main organisational and technical foundations will be distributed networks. The current thesis, based on the validity of the fore mentioned conclusion, investigates the conditions under which the social change, through the domination of distributed networks, can take place in the information age. The main research question is formulated as follows:
“Under which conditions can peer economy and peer governance prevail over the processes of ‘market economy’ and its complementary institution of representative ‘democracy’, as well as under which conditions can the subjectivity, on which the fore mentioned institutional change could be based, develop?”
Answering the first part I use diverse literature and examine the conditions under which the P2P processes can gradually substitute the system of market economy and the representative mechanism of ‘democracy’. In other words there are discussed the conditions for an institutional change. However, a successful revolution should come ‘from below’ through a rupture with the past, not only at the institutional level, but also at the subjective level of consciousness. The laser theory of networking investigates the conditions towards the subjective transition of the masses in the information age. I investigate the conditions for a subjective change while the civilisation is experiencing a shift from hierarchies to networks.
According to the current plan, the thesis will have been approved by the University of Amsterdam by the beginning of February (that is why the pages concerning laser theory of networking in P2P wiki have been deleted). Then I will able to publish a summary of my study at P2P foundation wiki site.
