Latino music and the musicians that rise to the top come in waves. In the 80s it was Gloria Estefan that was lighting up the charts with the Miami Sound Machine. In the 90s it was time for stars like Ricky Martin to take the stage. He would be joined by a great influx of Latin artists like Jennifer Lopez, Daddy Yankee and Shakira. This would set the scene for the majority of Latina hit makers that would continue to show up on the music scene. All of these artists have set the scene for musicians like Norka Luque. She is one of the best right now, but there is something she has that many other artists do not have. Norka is an artist from Venezuelan descent.
There was another star in the 90s that stood out. This was Mexican superstar Selena. The thing that made Selena a big hit was her rise in Mexico. She was just about to get to the point of being an international superstar before she passed. Everyone in Mexico knew her, but she was just starting to hit the American airwaves. This is where Norka Luque is right now. People in Venezuela know exactly who she is. In America, however, she is just starting to make tracks and blaze her trail. This is good because, like Selena, Norka has the ability to put her native land on the map. Mexicans had their own music that was dominant in Mexico, but there were no true crossover artists.
The same thing was true for Shakira before the brought the sound of Colombia to the United States. Colombians had their own sound. They did not, however, have anyone before – or since – Shakira that had such a strong American presence.
All that she has to do is stay on track with the producer that helped Gloria Estefan bring the Cuban sound to the United States in the 80s. This is what is so great about the music that Norka is producing right now. She already had a road map designed by other people like Gloria, Shakira and Selena. Norka Luque already had a hit on her hands.
