over the limit

Ok, there are limits and I’m learning about them. I have been adding all kind of more or less useful feeds for months to the wikis in the kabo-wiki-hive in order to find out about the limits of feed aggregation in oddmuse. On the various “sub-wikis” (= name spaces) I recognized a moderate slow down that is still acceptable considering the various feed inclusions. “I’m getting closer to the limit.” I thought. Then, returning to care for the main wiki kabo-wiki-hive which I hadn’t touched for a while, I realized that I’m already far over the limit. Feeds for the main wiki can’t be burned in feedburner anymore (feed validator says time out) and it is awfully slow.

I’m going to deactivate high traffic feeds on the kabo-wikis: blog-, video-, friends-xxx-wiki-feeds to see if the main wiki returns to normal speed.

Started with what hurts most: the one big xxx pages in the whoRthey-wiki. To see if there’s any effect. I’m not sure if there is.

hive specific page names

I started renaming the pages hive, all … into pages with hive specific names: kabo-wiki, all talk, kabo-wiki, all wiki ideas and so on. Find them all at the end of the current day-page in the set kabo-wiki, all wikis. Quite a lot of work but the results do feel good. :)

On google - reader kabo-wiki-list you find back our external links. It provides the kabo-wiki-list-complete-feed, atom which feedburner transfers into the kabo-wiki-list-complete-feed. On the page kabo-wiki-list complete you find its inclusion.

Removed the centered galaxy header [1] Sam made, put back the old “galaxy to the right” one.

I needed space for “kabo-wiki-hive - kabo-wiki-list” in one line. These are the first dual-core wiki. To do: move galaxy a tiny bit more to the left.

Update:

Well, they have escalated my request up to the next level, to the developers of the GridServer?. So, keep your fingers crossed that they’ll install XML::RSS module. Otherwise, Plan B is I will try TheSheep’s experiment of installing the module, and trying to hack the wiki code via the config file.

Turns out that the XML::RSS cpan module can only be installed by people with root access on the gridserver. Gridserver is kind of weird set up, that gives you limited administrator access, but not root access. So, I had to send an email to the developers at media temple, and beg them to install LWP::UserAgent? and XML::RSS. If they won’t do it, then we are dead in the water for RSS on the grid server.

…although…there are many new gridserver hosts coming online this year. So, maybe will move operations if someone else can make a vps on a gridserver with root access.

I turned the former list of wikis into the hive list - a new day-page-set - in order to get a hive-list-feed. Too early to say if it makes any sense.
