A Brief Intro to the Kabbalah Centre

The Kabbalah Centre International is a Los Angeles based religious organization that represents adherents to the Kabbalistic and Zohar religious teachings. The Centre also acts as a study organization that operates both over the internet as well as in many different cities and regions across the globe.

The Kabbalah Centre International was founded by husband and wife Phillip and Karen Berg in 1965. The organization employs a large and diverse group of practitioners and teachers who run Kabbalah events and study groups in many different countries.

In 1965 Rav Phillip Berg, who was originally known as Fivel Gruberger began the Kabbalah Center. Originally the Centre was named the “The National Research Institute of Kabbalah”. This name was decided upon by both Rav Phillip Beg as wel as Rav Yehuda Tzvi Brandwein who were known at the time as serious experts in the field of Kabbalah Studies.

Rav Yehuda Tzvi Brandwein had a previous position at the “Yeshiva Kol Yehuda” in the state of Israel. The Yeshiva Kol Yehuda had long roots in the area and had been operating since late in 1922. This non profit organization over time developed into what we know as the current Kabbalah Centre.

The American progenitors of the Kabbalah Movement, Karen and Phillip Berg spent a great deal of time in the Holy Land and eventually made their way to New York in order to found the first Kabbalah Centre based in the continental United States. This was a major development in the Kabbalah movement.

One of the more prominent Kabbalah Centres in the US is the Los Angeles Branch which the Bergs founded in 1984. Unfortunately Rav Berg passed away in 2013 at which time his wife Karen Berg took over his duties as the spiritual leaders and day to day managers of the Kabbalah Centre. Today the Kabbalah Centre is a worldwide phenomenon and they have operations in cities and countries across the world including London, Berlin, Toronto and many more.

The Kabbalah Centre also attracts many mainstream celebrity followers such as Madonna, Britney Spears, Red Hot Chili Peppers member Anthony Kiedis and many other high profile supporters and followers.
